THE GREAT DEBATE: TO PAINT OR NOT TO PAINT?

A few years back, I found this beautiful Thomasville buffet at a church sale and knew it would be the perfect piece for our entry. It was in beautiful shape, the wood really warmed up the space and the drawers and cabinets have been so helpful in storing our ever-growing collection of board games and puzzles. Fast forward a few years and, while I still love the piece, I now have an overwhelming urge to paint the whole thing BLACK!

First of all, let me say that I am a huge fan of brown wood; I have always loved the look and how it warms up any space (the ottomans in our living room are a wonderful example of this). HOWEVER, there are just some pieces that, I feel, would do far better with a coat of paint and this is a piece where I think that is true. The buffet is vintage, not an antique, so I feel a lot better about considering painting it and I think the details of the piece would pop so much more with a few coats of my go-to shade of black, Sherwin Williams Tricorn Black. Here is another view from the living room into the foyer:

You might recall I painted the dresser in our bedroom this same shade a few years ago and absolutely LOVED the transformation:

Here is the before:

What do you think? Are you Team Paint it Black or Team Leave it Be??

Thank you so much, Colleen! I think so, too!

Hmmm, I’m torn between the two. The bare wood is sooo lovely, but still, there is something about the shape of the dresser that would perhaps make it look better in black? And I agree with Colleen that it would look great with your floors.

I know, it’s such a hard decision to make! But I do think the details on this piece would really shine with a coat of paint! xx
