the master of moody blues

The way this week is going, it feels like it should have been Friday two days ago.  I had a whole painting tutorial set up for today and after signing in this morning and discovering it had completely disappeared,  I’m throwing in the towel and posting some serious eye candy, instead.  Grr….

Last weekend, I finally had a chance to flip through the latest design magazines that have been sitting in a pile in my living room and fell in love with this dining room in the latest House Beautiful.  Have you guys seen it yet?  As soon as I saw the cerused oak walls and pale blue high gloss window casings and doors, I knew it was the work of designer Steven Gambrel.  Not only is he the king of all those itty bitty details that make all his designs extraordinary but he also is the master of infusing the most beautiful, pale blue in a lot of his projects.  He always picks the perfect shade, the right amount and in the perfect spots, whether it be on window mullions, contrast piping on a wingback chair, a pair of lamps or a stunning lacquered ceiling.  He’s also been a huge source of inspiration for how I’ve approached my own home and so, since I never resist an opportunity to share some of his work, here are some fabulous examples of how he incorporates blue into his work:
