shingle style elegance
I’m working on a very exciting new project in Wrightsville Beach, so lately, I’ve had a lot of beach houses, beach cottages and beach house inspiration on the brain! This summer cottage by architect John B. Murray stopped me dead in my tracks – if you’re an habitual reader of my blog, you know I have a slight obsession with shingle style cottages and this one is no exception. Charming details abound like beautiful trim and millwork, beadboard and coffered ceilings, built-in seating, storage and shelving, and wall-to-wall windows. The contrast between the all-white walls and ceilings and the dark hardwoods and slate floors create a beautiful backgound for a neutral furnishings and accessories:
This screened-in porch is right up my alley – coffered ceilings, transom windows, slate floors, a zinc table, wicker seating and nautical-inspired lighting…I would eat every meal out here:
A Dutch door turns the charm factor way up in this bright, two-story entry, and that fabulous trimwork adds a touch of elegance:
Love the built-in bench:
There is so much to love in this living room, I just want to curl up on the couch with a book and a bottle of wine:
This mudroom is pretty fabulous – between the built-in seating, slate floors, those nautical-inspired flushmount lights and all that natural light, it’s the perfect combination of beautiful and functional:
Another example of why all-white kitchens will never go out of style – glassfront cabinetry, industrial lighting and seating, a coffered ceiling framed in beadboard:
How amazing is this butler’s pantry? The detail work on the cabinets is gorgeous…
Love the contrast on this black and white back stairway:
I loved the screened-in porch so much, here are my picks for creating a similar look:
Concrete table / Sconce / Wicker dining chair / Hanging pendant light / Topiaries / Greek Key pillow
