If dropping $20,000 on a piece of art were a luxury I could easily afford, my first purchase would be one of Eric Zener’s oversize oil paintings.  Each piece is so incredibly realistic that, at first glance, one might have a hard time determining whether he or she was looking at a photograph or a painting (I certainly did!)

Famous for centering his paintings around water, whether it’s the sea or the swimming pool, Zener’s work invokes calm, peaceful feelings.  A diver plunging beneath the surface with so many bubbles, it seems like they are about to burst through the painting.  A woman taking a morning swim alone in the ocean; a father and daughter holding hands, jumping off a pier.  Looking at one of his pieces, you can’t help but feel like you’re immersed in the water yourself.

Someday, one of his paintings will hang in my house.  Until then, here are some of my favorites that still manage to take my breath away; which one is your favorite?  Check out more of his work here
