When we built our house three years ago, I found it really helpful to focus on contrast whenever I got overwhelmed by all the decisions and choices I had to make.  Pale gray walls against super dark hardwood floors, white subway tile against black granite countertops, antique bronze cup pulls against crisp white Shaker-style cabinetry all contribute to the balanced, comfy cozy feel I was so desperately striving for.  My favorite combination, however, is probably the Brazilian black slate flooring and white beadboard run horizontally for an unexpected twist in our master bathroom-the slate is a deep, dark navy and looks so fresh against the beadboard.  Here’s a little peek:

I also put this in my laundry room – it’s super durable and its deep, dark navy hue hides dirt pretty well – but I also think it adds a gorgeous touch to kitchens, living areas and porches, as well!  Here are a few spaces that are even more inspiring, thanks to this beautiful material:
