the power of paint
Every client, naturally, wants the biggest bang for their decorating buck and one of the best places to start is with paint. It’s amazing how something as simple as a few coats of paint can completely transform a space or a piece of furniture, giving it a fresh new feel. This is especially important for non-occupied homes that are sitting on the market (even if they have this amazing view):
The inside is adorable, but it needs a few updates, so the first thing I did was get to work with paint. The beautiful millwork on the stairway blended into the white walls-there was no contrast:
The whole house is getting a fresh coat of Benjamin Moore’s Revere Pewter. It’s a beautiful sandy gray, and it’s one of my favorite go-to colors for neutral spaces. The change is subtle, but it’s enough to make the stairs and trim really pop and the wood floors look even warmer:
The master bedroom was a mix of mustard yellow paint and ice blue carpet, ultimately detracting from the beautiful view of the lake right outside the window.
Three coats of paint later and a fresh, modern space has been born! (There was a storm brewing outside when I took this picture, so it doesn’t exactly do the color justice):
Next, we’re replacing all the carpet with a warm, neutral frise, so you’ll see the contrast even more, and I’ll be refinishing all the cabinetry in the bathrooms, so stay tuned for more progress pics! In the meantime, here is another example of how paint can take a piece of furniture from drab to fab:
This thrift store find was more country bumpkin than coastal cool, but after a coat of French Gray paint, topped off with some diluted white paint dry brushed on, it blends in much better with the new owner’s shabby chic decor:
Dry brushing the white paint really highlights the grain and curves of the legs:
Oh, behold the power of paint! Have a great weekend!
