nautical chic
Everyone loves a fabulous beach house, no? Considering how many homes by the sea I’ve blogged about over the years, I’m sure you’re shaking your head as you read this (I know I sure am!) For me, the difference between a gorgeous, well-executed beach house and a kitschy one with over the top decorations really comes down to classic pieces with modern touches, lots of natural texture, a soothing, neutral color palette and beautiful architectural details (and pops of blue and green here and there doesn’t hurt, either!) It’s so easy to overdo it with “beachy” decorative accessories, but I think focusing on beautiful fabrics and textiles, subtle nautical details and chic, comfortable furnishings instead creates more of an air of elegance. Connecticut-based design firm Orrick and Company nails this aesthetic in spades. Every single project in their portfolio is right up my alley – tone on tone neutrals, lots of white, beautiful built-ins, a great mix of rustic and modern pieces and just the right amount of color for good measure. Sheer perfection. SO much inspiration can be gleamed from these beautiful rooms and even if they aren’t right on the beach, it still feels like the sea isn’t too far away, don’t you think? Here are a few spaces from their portfolio that have me swooning:
