la fiorentina

Have you ever fallen in love (or, in my case, become completely obsessed) with a design trend-be it fabric, a piece of art or even furniture-but shied away from purchasing it out of fear that it will go out of style sooner than later?  I certainly have.  And I’ve even had to steer clients away from some big ticket items that are hot at the moment, but that surely wouldn’t transition over the years.  When it comes down to it, though, you have to ask yourself one thing….if you absolutely love it, does it really matter?

Some design “trends” will never go out of style.  For me, my weak spot is La Fiorentina fabric.  Originally designed by David Hicks back in the 1970’s, then brought back to life thirty-some years later by India Hicks for Groundworks , it’s one fabric that I never tire of. The graphic print really packs a punch and the neutral color options compliment so many different design styles. Use it for throw pillows or to reupholster a chair cushion.  A little goes a long way, which is fortunate, because this beautiful print costs a pretty penny.  I’m currently trying to decide between the ivory and navy for pillows for my couch, but I love it in every color way:

Kelly! Pleased to meet you and I adore your blog (layout, pics, style, etc). I just routed here through Bryn's post and am happy to add you to my morning coffee reads! I must say, I feel so conflicted inside about La Fiorentina. I feel, unabashedly in love with it and want it all over my house. Well, maybe just all over my couch. BUT, Im so afraid I'll look trite and unoriginal. But… regardless of all of that, I have two pillows in the camel/white colorway on my couch and I'm owning it. I just would love to get the grasscloth wallcovering for my bedroom but I know that's a little much. Thank you so much for speaking the words and content for me. 🙂

Pleased to meet you too, Bethany! I share your exact sentiments regarding this fabric…I seriously have a love affair with it! I don't think it could ever look trite or unoriginal and I know this because whenever I see it in a magazine or featured in a room somewhere online, it makes my heart skip a beat, ha! Thank you for reading! xo

It is a great pattern and not that overdone in "blogland" like some others. Just pulled the navy and brown colorway for a job.
