Water is restorative, therapeutic and just plain good for the soul, but for those of us who aren’t lucky enough to live on the water, oversized paintings and prints of the sea are a great alternative to creating a similar feel at home.  Large pieces of art make a dramatic focal point in any room, but there’s something about the sea that everyone can relate to.  Artist Marybeth Thielhelm’s oversize oil paintings  are captiviating and absolutely stunning in their simplicity.  Here are a few of my favorites:

Thielhelm’s work is featured in the Sears-Peyton Gallery in New York City. Co-owner Macie Sears has one of Thielhelm’s paintings hanging in her own home – turquoise, cobalt and navy blue add a welcome pop of color to an otherwise neutral space:

…and interior designer Phoebe Howard has used Thielhelm’s paintings in her spaces, as well:

Beautiful! And it is the mere size that makes it such a statement piece…I would LOVE one!

We absolutely love our small, framed MaryBeth Thielhelm – proudly displayed in our NYC apartment living room – that we bought in 2002 in Stonington Maine. Such depth that draws you into the smokey blue water.

Deirdre and Nancy – I'm so envious! I am a huge fan of her work!
