island lights
We have vaulted ceilings in our kitchen…I love how open and airy the space is, but my one regret is that I let the electrician talk me out of hanging pendant lights over my farmhouse sink when we were building. His reasoning was that it would look disproportionate, since the ceilings are so high, that all one would notice is the rod, not the actual pendant. I don’t know why I let him influence my decision so much that I ignored my instinct and didn’t go with my gut, but that situation is being remedied very shortly and not a moment too soon, if you ask me!
I’m a huge fan of industrial-style pendants…they add charm and elegance without taking away from the rest of the kitchen. Here are some of my favorite images of industrial pendants from my inspiration files:

…and via House Beautiful:

Jennifer Dyer, via Lonny:
And just to show that pendant lighting can still look chic with vaulted or two-story ceilings…
I’m leaning heavily toward two Benson pendants from Restoration Hardware, but am keeping my eyes open to other (less expensive) options:
What do you think? Have you fallen in love with any industrial-style pendant lighting?

Hi Kelly – I just discovered your blog through a link from another, and I'm really enjoying it! You have great style. I have the benson 13" pendants over my island and I love them (it took me almost 3 years to commit because I was worried they would be too big, but no regrets). I was on Restoration Hardware's website this morning and they have them on final sale, so if you want them, you may want to act quickly before they are gone.
