inspired: blue interior doors
It’s been so long since we’ve seen the sun around these parts, it’s starting to feel like we live in the Pacific Northwest. I may be loving the cold weather, but I’m definitely craving a pop of soft color to liven things up a bit around here. I posted a picture on Instagram the other day (@bungalowblue) of the French doors leading from my living room to my screened in porch and how I decided to give them a fresh coat of glossy paint – bye, bye white; hello color! Surprisingly, everyone thought I was going to go with glossy black, but I’m going with GLOSSY BLUE!!! Nothing crazy or too bright, a few shades darker than the light gray/blue on the walls, but enough to make a soft and subtle difference. I have bamboo Roman shades on the doors with white curtains flanking them, so I think the contrast will be nice. I’ve got two coats of primer on them already and am hoping to paint them this afternoon, so I’ll be sure to post after pics. In the meantime, how about a little inspiration? No one does blue better than Steven Gambrel. And major bonus, many of the homes in his portfolio boast soft gray/blue doors. Perfection. What are you doing to beat the winter blah’s? Adding some color? Or are you loving the gray?

Can't wait to see the doors, we will probably convert our screened porch to a sun porch sometime this year. We have two sets of doors to this area, one from the kitchen and one from the family room, that I am thinking about painting black. I have been pinning some ideas and I am all into the neutrals of black, gray, stained wood, white wood walls with neutral accents etc. Thanks for the inspiration and no to gray skies, I need my sunshine and pops of color!!
Miriam – you can never go wrong with glossy black doors! It would be my other go-to if I wasn't doing blue. Good luck converting the sun porch, it sounds like it will be beautiful!
Love the photos – Steven Gambrel always gets it right! Love the blue doors. I painted our front and back door blue last summer. Inspiration from your postings. I was nervous but they look amazing blue. Can't wait to see your doors.
