GET THE LOOK: SAG HARBOR SEA CAPTAIN’S COTTAGE
It’s no secret I have a mild love affair with the work of interior designer Steven Gambrel. If you guys have been hanging around here for a while, you know his sea captain’s cottage in Sag Harbor is an absolute favorite of mine, one that I am always drawing inspiration from and one that I’m always excited to see new perspectives/views that I hadn’t before. So you can imagine my delight earlier this summer when the waterfront property hit the market; suddenly, pics of the house were all that were floating through my instagram feed! There is so much to love about this property, which has sections that date back to 1800, from the tone-on-tone color palette, the mix of antiques and well-worn reclaimed materials mixed with modern amenities, the guest cottage and exquisite outdoor views, right down to the DREAM KITCHEN. To be honest, I love this house mostly for the kitchen, with its floor-to-ceiling glazed tiles, planked ceiling and flooring reclaimed from a Tennessee house by Philip Johnson. Here are a few other snaps from the property that are simply breathtaking and be sure to scroll all the way to the bottom of the post for a few of my picks to create a similar look:
Here are a few of my picks for creating a similar look at home; whenever I think of Gambrel’s style, I always think of soothing sand and sea color palettes, subtle nautical details, a pop of greenery (myrtle topiary are a favorite), lots of texture and beautiful lighting:
Myrtle topiary / Marble tray / Woven drinking glasses / Oversize clam shell / Pendant light / Bell jar pendant / Bamboo flatware / Woven rope table lamp / Basket / Gate leg table
