friday five

Right before Lydia was born, I invested in a pricey new lens for my Nikon.  My justification for purchasing something so extravagant right before having a baby was twofold: I would be able to take much better photos of client projects AND capture amazing, ethereal moments of my baby girl.  While my photography skills have improved DRAMATICALLY since then, I will say that for every amazing picture I grab of Lydia, there are about 35 outtakes that are either out of focus or blurry because my little Tazmanian Devil is on the run (which is a drastic improvement from the 5,000 tries it used to take to get a decent shot when I first got my lens)

My kid is no stranger to having a camera shoved in her face but I also have it out and “practice” with  ALL. THE. TIME.  This includes taking pictures of projects, DIY’s, my house or just because I rearranged things on my bookshelves and got a wild hair to photograph it for posterity (?!)  There are a bunch of photos I never post here and so, in an effort to share more of my home, my projects, my daughter and just life in general, I’m starting “FRIDAY FIVE” where I’ll post a few snapshots from the cutting room floor each week.  Here is this week’s five!

It’s still not cold enough to close it for the winter, so I still get to see sparkling blue from my kitchen and living room (and skim pine straw all day, every day) for a little while longer:

My sweet girl’s got some major curls, just like her momma:

I planted dahlias for the first time this year and while I was a tad disappointed to discover that, when cut, they don’t last more than a day or two in water (is that normal??), they made quite a striking impression from the curb!

It’s amazing how a little zhushing and shelf rearranging on a rainy day can improve your mood:

I’ve been buying sunflowers by the bucket lately; after two solid weeks of rain, I was beginning to think it was the only sun we would ever see again.  I don’t know how people in the Pacific Northwest do it!

making Have a wonderful weekend!

I bought a nice Canon camera to do interior shots. It's got all the bells and whistles and takes much better pics than my iphone! Then I made the mistake of buying our daughter a compact Sony RX100 for Christmas. I was hooked. It takes amazing pictures and is so portable. I waited a few months and finally broke down and bought one for myself. Needless to say the poor Canon is gathering dust in my closet!

Your photos are gorgeous! Thank you for sharing. 🙂

Elizabeth – isn't that always the case!! I love my Nikon, but it took a LONG time to master the manual setting. Thank you so much for your sweet comment; I LOVE your work! Hope you have a wonderful weekend! xx
