classic casual home

Every once in a while, I come across a blog that is so breathtaking I can’t devour every little tidbit fast enough.  Classic Casual Home, penned by Mary Ann Pickett, is definitely one of those blogs-when I saw her kitchen renovation featured on Hooked on Houses a few weeks ago, I dropped everything and read every last one of her posts.

Mary Ann and her husband recently did a complete overhaul on their 1950’s bungalow in Southern California, but the kitchen takes the cake for me, so I immediately emailed her, asking if I could post photos and she graciously accepted, so without further adieu…

Here is what Mary Ann’s kitchen looked like when they bought the house:

And here is her kitchen now:

The large island, painted Benjamin Moore’s Fieldstone, is a perfect compliment to the Carerra marble countertop, glass-front cabinets, slate floors and farmhouse sink.

The iron chandelier is a beautiful contrast against all the light and white elements in the room:

French doors, flanked by industrial-style baker’s racks by Noir, open right onto the patio:

To the right of the baker’s racks is a load-bearing wall which left a bit of unused space on the other side of it.  Mary Ann used it to create one of her favorite spots in the kitchen-a beverage center with a small sink, hot filtered tap, a wine fridge and a cappucino maker.  Genius!

A sitting room off to the left is the perfect spot to enjoy a glass of wine or keep the cook company:

To make room for the fridge, Mary Ann removed a wall and added a corner pantry…

…which is where Mary Ann has plugged in all her small appliances to save precious counter space in the kitchen…

Thank you so much, Mary Ann, for giving us a glimpse into your beautifully renovated kitchen!  To see more of Mary Ann’s home, and to read her equally beautiful blog, click here.
