blue, bold + beautiful
If you only get one chance to make a great first impression at your home, a good place to start is the front door! Not only is it a great opportunity to make a bold statement, but it also sets the tone for what is to be expected when guests walk through the rest of your home. For me, picking a color is like finding a needle in a haystack…very near impossible when you are flipping through ten different fan decks! Our front door is currently rusty red-it’s dull and in a flat or eggshell paint and desperately needs to go. To compliment our dark gray shingles and black shutters, I’m thinking pale blue (surprise, surprise!) like the beauty above. Then, I got to searching and inspiration was only a mouse click away on Pinterest with more lovely examples of this beautiful hue:
Steven Gambrel’s Sag Harbor home is one of my all-time favorites, with its white clapboard and baby blue shutters and doors:
…and that aged brass hardware is a striking compliment:
Jill Goldberg of Hudson Interiors creates a fabulous first impression to a vast entry with that gorgeous pale blue door and trim:
Benjamin Moore’s Wythe Blue greets visitors at this dream home of professional photographers over at Hiya Papaya, via House of Turquoise:
This exterior makeover jumped out at me from the latest issue of Southern Living, thanks to that gorgeous aqua door, Pratt and Lambert’s Quarry:
High gloss, powder blue paint and polished chrome hardware are a striking compliment to gray-painted brick on interior designer Miles Redd’s apartment:
The powder blue front door of designer Molly Frey’s house is a beautiful prelude to the tranquil color palette inside:
What do you think? Would you paint your front door blue?

We are actually in the midst of painting our exterior right now & I am trying to find the perfect blue for our front door. I tried a sample of wythe blue, but it was a little too bright. I need something with a bit of a gray undertone. Any recommendations? I am getting Martha Stewart's "milk pail" to try next.
