designer love: waterleaf interiors

The first I heard of Waterleaf Interiors was back in 2007 when the interior design firm and their boutique, based in Manhattan Beach, California, was featured in Coastal Living.  I was immediately drawn to their elegant yet casual, coastal style and how seamlessly they created laid back spaces that beckon you to come in, put your feet up and relax a while-all proof that functional spaces can actually be tailored and beautiful.

Armed with backgrounds in fashion design, owners Jill Johnson and Suzanne Ascher have been creating clean and classic interiors, infused with a dash of the unexpected, since 2006 when they launched Waterleaf.  Their portfolio is chock full of beautiful spaces, perfect for gleaming some inspiration for your own home or just to admire.  Below are some of my favorites:

This cozy bedroom is great inspiration for a nursery I’m working on that will have lots of pale blue and red accents:

Love this aqua chest:

These black wicker barstools and pendant lights are a beautiful contrast to the all-white kitchen:

Subtle coastal references, like this coral chandelier, make a big impact…

You can’t go wrong with this combination of grasscloth wallpaper, white wainscoting and beds, and blue and white fabric:

This vaulted ceiling makes my heart race…

I especially love this nook off the kitchen and family room-perfect for an afternoon nap, curling up with a good book or enjoying a glass of wine before dinner:
