newport digs

Sorry for the silence last week – if you follow me on Instagram (@bungalowblue), you know the hubby and I got to take a much-needed vacation and I relished in the opportunity to unplug and unwind!  We kicked off our vacation by flying to Rhode Island for one of my closest friend’s weddings and stayed with my aunt and uncle at their fabulous, ocean front digs in Newport, one of my all-time favorite seaside towns ever!  Their house was absolutely amazing – they own three properties inside one of the oldest homes on Ocean Avenue and I thought I’d post some pics from the one we stayed in.

This one was a bit of a gut job, removing ugly carpet to reveal original hardwood floors, tearing down walls to create an open, airy feel and then decorating with a classic red, white and blue color palette and antique finds (like that Newport sign in the entry way….believe me, if there was a way to smuggle that bad boy onto the plane ride home, I would have!):

The kitchen was originally a galley kitchen, completely blocked off from the rest of the living space.  All the cabinetry was removed and custom, glass-front beauties went in.  Love the nautical touch the pendant lights add:

The bookcase built-ins match the kitchen cabinets and add interest and extra storage:

The real star of the show, though, are the AMAZING views!!!!  I would live on their rooftop porch year round, rain or snow:

Loved the view of this shingle-style beauty right across the way:

My aunt and uncle are in the process of gutting and renovating the original dining room for the entire house, which will be another living area…can’t wait to share pics of the amazing transformation that’s underway right now!  Stay tuned for photos!
