light my fire

There are two things, in my opinion, that completely make a room-the icing on the cake, if you will.  One is window treatments and the other is fabulous lighting.  You can get away without all the other little details as long as you have both – the right lighting fixture and flowing window panels soften a space and create a warm, inviting environment.  Last week a client and I hit one of my favorite local lighting jaunts to pick fixtures for her dining room and kitchen.  Though we flipped through every catalogue imaginable, I kept coming back to the latest from Quorum.  Just because you’re working on a budget, which, let’s face it, most of us are, doesn’t mean you have to settle for ugly, run-of-the-mill lighting.  Quorum has beautiful options and are surprisingly super affordable.  Here are a few that jumped out at me:

The Telluride collection is my latest obsession.  It’s the most expensive out of all the fixtures I loved, but I just had to include it because it is simply breathtaking!  Reclaimed hardwood body, oil rubbed bronze detailing and teardrop shape are gorgeous:

The Ashford comes in at a close second:

They have a bevy of beautiful reproduction French antique chandeliers that are STUNNING, including Salento:

and La Maison:

The Anatola is a beautiful cast iron alternative:

Gorgeous! These are great finds! I saw an antique (or vintage) wood light fixture in a dining room in a magazine once, and I loved it immediately – partly because it seemed so unusual. Why don't more places make fixtures like these!?

On a slightly related note, I would love to hear your opinion on overhead light fixtures in bedrooms. Maybe a future post topic? I have such a hard time with this one. If I chose something that would traditionally go over a dining table, would it look awkward? Are non-boob flushmounts and drum shades the safest/only options? I really feel like I need to see something in place before I can decide on this one, and installing a light fixture "just to see" is a bit too much work for me.

Kate – you can absolutely install a chandelier over a bed! I just installed the Salento chandelier in a master bedroom for a client in place of a ceiling fan and it looks amazing! It's in a tray ceiling, so it's a little higher, but we also hung it a good bit over the bed. You don't have to install a flushmount….a beautiful chandelier that you love brings so much more to a room!

Kelly – thanks so much for the response! I bet the Salento chandelier is lovely in the bedroom you put it in. Perhaps my problem is fining something in the right style to fit my space and aesthetic. More research is in order I guess! 🙂 Thanks again!
