island girl

I’ve had a bit of a love affair with the fabulous Miss India Hicks for quite some time now.  Island Life was one of the first interior design books I ever purchased and was my go-to resource for decorating my own home for the eight years we lived five minutes from the beach.  Her Bahamian home, Hibiscus Hill, has been all over the internet and blog land for years and yes, I’m going to feature it again!  Two summers ago Veranda featured it again and it’s become one of my most dog-eared, well worn issues yet!  When it comes to combining classic European and Caribbean influences and mixing antiques and flea-market finds with modern furniture and accessories for a layered feel that looks like it has evolved over many years, Hicks is the Queen Bee.  Her attention to detail is impeccable – from the ginormous palm fronds she keeps in vases around the house to the beautifully layered little vignettes and tablescapes all throughout the house, her style is timeless and so welcoming:

Here are my picks for creating a similar look:

mint julep cup / blue + white ginger lamp / fiddle leaf fig tree / basket /

director’s chair / coral / pillow / model ship /
