inspired design: matthew caughy

It doesn’t matter the time of year or how cold it may be outside, I am always influenced by the sea and I love bringing small bits of it into my home year round, so it’s no surprise I was instantly smitten with the sea-inspired portfolio of New York-based interior designer Matthew Caughy.  His style is traditional and  elegant but so laid back and inviting with just the right amount of prep and a few perfectly placed nautical elements.  Lots of crisp white, the perfect shade of pale blue and gorgeous grass cloth are the backdrops for layers of decorative accessories, a great mix of modern and traditional furnishings, blue and white ginger jars, beautiful lighting and lots and lots of yummy texture.  And let’s not forget a healthy heaping of lovely hydrangeas for a little drama!  Here are some of my favorites from his portfolio:

Here are my picks for creating a similar look:

Vendome Double Sconce / Christopher Farr Carnival Lumbar Pillow / Blue and white ginger jars

Wide striped dhurrie rug / South Seas Bar Cart / Antique blue book collection

Antique tortoise night stand / Faux coral / Candle / Demijohn

 Happy Monday!
