inspired: burlap

Burlap is a fabulous, inexpensive, industrial fabric-it’s great for when you want to add texture and warmth to a space, and at around $3 per yard, it’s super accessible for anyone’s budget.  Here are some of my favorite ideas using this textile.  First up, these beauties.  Toms are some of the most comfy shoes I’ve worn and once I saw their burlap pair, I knew they were destined to be in my collection:

When Brooke Giannetti of Velvet and Linen gave her children’s study a complete overhaul, she painted the walls and trim in Farrow and Ball’s Lamp Room Gray, but the entire space was instantly warmed up with the addition of Roman shades made of burlap and lined with painter’s drop cloths from Home Depot!

Is there anything more fabulous than a headboard upholstered in burlap and trimmed out with antique brass nailhead?  I think not.  Phoebe Howard knocked it out of the park with this curvy dream of a headboard-especially when she paired it with crisp white and coral bedding:

I love the idea of using burlap as a tablecloth-you can buy huge pieces for less than $10 at feed and seed stores and sew them together for a showstopping table, like this one:

And speaking of table decor, these Mind Your Manners burlap placemats would be an easy DIY and a definite conversation starter:

Anne Turner Carroll replaced closet doors with panels of nubby burlap in this room featured in Cottage Living back in 2007.  The panels add so much character to the otherwise neutral space.  It’s still one of my favorite rooms from that much-missed magazine:

Burlap curtains help a define space, like in this foyer/living room via Apartment Therapy:

…and this living room/kitchen:

Pottery Barn sells these burlap shopping totes for $7.50-they make great gift ideas when monogrammed, like mine:

Love these burlap lamp shades:
