grey + white + lovely all over

If there’s one thing many clients are most unsure of initially, it’s bringing color into their homes.  While their closets boast bright and bold or dark and moody hues, they have no idea how to incorporate the same into their living spaces.  I often hear, “I love dark colors, but I’m afraid it will make my rooms look smaller”, when, in fact, just the opposite is true.  Dark hues help walls recede and actually act as a nuetral background for furniture and accessories, really bringing the room together.  The library in this stunning New Hampshire farmhouse are a great example-charcoal-looking walls (which are actually the most lovely shade of NAVY BLUE!) create a dramatic backdrop for white slipcovered furniture, antique treasures, old books and art:

The dark and moody library is actually light and bright and makes such a beautiful contrast with the rest of the white and light gray rooms of the house:
