coastal cupcakes

When my lovely friend and neighbor, Annie, celebrated her birthday last week, I knew exactly what to make her.  Her hubby recently retired from the Navy and she has a lot of nautical-inspired decor in her house, so my grab bag included a nautical rope doorstop, a bottle of Malbec and some coastal cupcakes!  With bamboo skewers, colored cardstock and my glue gun on hand, I got to work making little flags to decorate the cupcakes.  I cut the bamboo skewers to different lengths for added depth; it was a fun and easy way to dress up a sweet treat:
