chic toy storage

For someone with MAJOR OCD and overall anal retentiveness when it comes to organization and order, it goes without saying that some things required some major adjustments the moment Lydia came into our lives. Now that baby girl is older, I’m facing a different set of challenges, namely, trying to corral the myriad books, puzzles, stuffed animals, musical instruments and blocks that are usually spread throughout the house as though a hurricane blew through! For me, it comes down to baskets – big, beautiful ones – that “hide” toys, make cleanup a breeze and keep my living room feeling a little bit more “mine” at the end of the day.  I especially like bigger, narrow ones that are tall enough to hide the toys inside. Sticking with natural fibers like seagrass or wicker also adds texture and interest to any space and keeps it feeling “grown up”.  Stick a couple under a sofa console or side table, in corners or on bookshelves.  There’s just something about sitting with a glass of wine at night and not seeing a single toy, don’t you think?  Here are a few of my favorites lately:

1 / 2 / 3 / 4 / 5 / 6 / 7 / 8

1.  I always find baskets similar to this one in a bunch of different sizes (and much more affordable price tag) at HomeGoods and TJMaxx.

2.  Love the navy and white stripes on this tote from Container Store

3.  The heigh of this modern weave handled basket from West Elm is perfect for hiding toys; place two next to each other under a console for added interest.

4.  These la Jolla baskets from Serena and Lily are a bright, beachy option and come in pink and yellow, too!

5.  I found two similar to this beachcomber basket from Pottery Barn at TJMaxx and use them in Lydia’s closet for dirty clothes and toys that I rotate out regularly for her.

6.  This gray and white striped tote from Land of Nod lends a beachy feel to a playroom or nursery.

7.  These rattan cubes from Ikea are great option for organizing smaller toys and blocks and fit on most bookshelves.

8.  These plastic Mercado baskets are so cheery and fun!

What are some of your favorite ways to corral toys?  I’d love to know!

I love a pretty basket too and have them in most rooms of my house! I also found that placing a pair of storage ottomans under our console table was helpful for not only stashing toys at the end of the day, but for providing extra seating too.

I love the idea, Anne! Extra seating always seems to be something we are short on when we have get togethers!

Number 4 is definitely my favorite one, especially the hood. Everything is tidy and hidden. So cute, thanks for sharing, Storage Fortis Green Ltd.

    Totally agree, Anna!
