blue and white by jk kling

One of the things I miss most about snowy winters is how all the white outside makes the inside feel like a bright, white box!  We got eight inches of snow last year when Lydia was six weeks old and the top layer froze completely, making the entire neighborhood look like a big skating rink.  It had never been so bright in our house (and we get a lot of natural light, anyway); it was absolutely gorgeous!  This home, by Philadelphia-based mother-daughter design duo J.K. Kling and Associates, reminds me of that exact feeling.  It’s light and bright and – bonus – it’s decorated head to toe in blue and white! I love the mix in this house; white walls, grass cloth and the most beautiful tone-on-tone wall coverings are gorgeous backdrops for simple linen furnishings, bold pops of blue, fun pattern, jute rugs, whitewashed planked ceilings and natural elements (the marble slab backsplash in the kitchen is to die for!) And the lacquered navy blue jewel box of an office is just amazing.

Coral is one of my favorite ways to add texture to a space; here it not only adds so much interest to plain white walls, but it also ties the living room and the kitchen together with the subtle pops of soft blue:

The living room is such a breath of fresh air; the bricklayer’s coffee table and jute rug keep the room from feeling too formal and the fiddle leaf fig trees are a gorgeous pop of green:

A hanging lantern and a whitewashed plank ceiling are beautiful touches in the kitchen (second to that gorgeous marble slab backsplash, of course):

Bistro chairs, banquette seating and a Saarinen table in the eating area.  Perfection.

There is so much to love in this dining room, from the antique French chandelier and the tone-on-tone wall coverings to the lacquered table and an amazing handspun jute rug.  I would have gone with different chairs – perhaps Noir Regency in a whitewash finish:

A fabulous blue sofa in the family room with an open view into the kitchen:

Lacquered navy blue walls, built-ins, bamboo Roman blinds and just a touch of leopard in the office is striking:

All white in the master is a beautiful backdrop for that amazing, British Colonial style canopy bed:

I absolutely LOVE this for a little girl’s room; grass cloth walls, the sweetest lavender and white bedding and curtain panels and lavender upholstered benches are just perfect:

Love the happy and bright spaces! My house gets basically zero natural light (but lots of privacy, so I don't think I mind?), and I'm
Always so jealous of bright rooms like these!

Kate – you may not get lots of natural light in your house, but it oozes charm regardless!!

do you know what kind of floors are in this house? painted concrete or tile?

    Kelly-my guess would be tile!
